Laurence M. Baer PresidenT and chief execuTive officer

A fourth generation San Franciscan, Larry Baer has gained anational reputation as one of professional sports’ leadingvisionaries. Baer joined the team in 1992 as the executive vicepresident after he and Peter Magowan led the effort to assemble anew ownership group and negotiate the sale that kept the Giants inSan Francisco. A limited partner of the ownership group, Baer wasnamed chief operating officer in May 1996, team president inOctober 2008 and CEO on January 1, 2012. In his first year aspresident and CEO, the Giants won their second World SeriesChampionship in three years.

As president and CEO, Baer serves as the club’s “control” personon all Giants, Major League Baseball and industry issues. Baer isresponsible for the overall day-to-day functioning of theorganization. Under his direction

the Giants developed and constructed AT&T Park -- the firstprivately-financed Major League ballpark. Since opening in 2000,AT&T Park has been widely praised as one of the “best ballparksever built.” The club has received unprecedented fan support –becoming one of only four teams to exceed three million inattendance eight consecutive years (2000-2007). Currently, theGiants enjoy the longest active home sellout streak in Major LeagueBaseball of 246 games. With the support of more than 29,000 fullseason ticket holders, the Giants sold out the 2011, 2012 and 2013seasons and welcomed more than 3.3 mil-lion fans each year. TheGiants have been the standard bearer in all of baseball forsponsorship revenue, and the ballpark continues to be one of themost popular venues in the country for special events. In 2008,AT&T Park was named Sports Business Journal’s Sports Facilityof the Year, and in 2011 the Giants received Sports BusinessJournal’s Professional Sports Organization of the Year award.

Baer also serves as a key strategist and negotiator of theclub’s major business and baseball transac-tions. This includes theBarry Bonds signing in November 1992, the naming rights agreementwith AT&T (then Pacific Bell) in 1996 and other strategicbusiness partnerships. He led the effort to host the 2007 All-StarGame in San Francisco and was the driving force behind the Giantspartnership with Comcast to create a regional sports network forthe Bay Area.

In 2013, Baer ensured that the longest tenured general managerand the longest active and most win-ning manager remained with theGiants by extending the contracts of Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy.Baer worked closely with Sabean on strategic signings that keepseveral key players in Giants uniforms for years to come, includingBuster Posey, Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and Hunter Pence.

Baer also serves as President & CEO of Giants DevelopmentServices, which is currently developing Mission Rock – a new, mixeduse urban neighborhood located on a 25-acre site across McCoveyCove from AT&T Park. Once completed, Mission Rock will includemore than eight acres of parks and open space, an Anchor SteamBrewery, 650-1,500 residential units, 1.3 - 1.7 million square feetof office space, a parking structure to serve ballpark and MissionRock patrons, and up to 250,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, and public amenities. The project is currently in the entitlementphase with groundbreaking projected for 2016.

After earning Phi Beta Kappa honors at the University ofCalifornia in 1980, Baer joined the Giants as the club’s marketingdirector. In 1983, he left the Giants to attend Harvard BusinessSchool, followed by a four-year tenure at Westinghouse Broadcastingin San Francisco and New York. He finally returned to the Giants inDecember 1992 from CBS, Inc. in New York, where he had served as aspecial assistant to the network’s chairman, Laurence Tisch.

Baer has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awardsthroughout his career with the Giants. This includes the SanFrancisco Distinguished Leadership Award for civic leadership(1996), “Sports Torch of Learning Award” by the Scopus Society ofthe American Friends of The Hebrew University (1995), and theAnti-Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty Award (2001). In 2010,Baer was the named the “Person of the Year” by San Francisco Boysand Girls Club, and in 2012 he was honored as the Harvard BusinessSchool’s “Alumnus of the Year.” In March, 2014 Baer will be honoredby University of California Berkeley with its “Excellence inAchievement” award.
